Microneedling and Collagen Induction
There are so many newfound ways to keep one’s skin youthful, glowing, and wrinkle-free. Microneedling treatment has gained popularity in recent years. Individuals, both young and old, looking to revitalize their image, request this procedure more often than ever. At first thought, microneedling may not sound like the most pleasant way to save your skin from villainous wrinkles, but it may just be one of the best pain-free procedures you can get.
Microneedling is a clinical treatment used for acne scarring, fine lines, and wrinkles. The treatment of microneedling, also called collagen induction therapy, can increase the volume of collagen in the skin at the same time. While the treatment is minimally invasive, the results can be quite effective. Our esthetician will use the microneedling tool to create micro-injuries that will jump-start healing in the skin. When the new collagen-rich skin cells begin to form, it can make the skin more even in texture and tone.
Benefits of Microneedling
One of the main benefits of microneedling is its ability to stimulate the amount of collagen in the skin, which produces the young, glowing skin many desire. Essentially, the body is healing and causing cell-turnover in its natural regenerative process.
Reduces Acne Scarring
Another benefit of microneedling is the improvement of visible scarring on the skin. A study from the Journal of Cutaneous and Aesthetic Surgery states that almost 100% of patients who had the microneedling treatment saw visible improvement in their acne scarring.
The third benefit of this treatment is its anti-aging properties and ability to tighten up the skin in older men and women. These anti-aging benefits are great for older individuals because the more that you age, the less collagen you are producing.
We advise that you speak to your doctor before the appointment to ensure the best possible outcome. For example, acne medication may or may not need to stop before having microneedling treatments done.
Microneedling Procedure Details
A consultation with our esthetician must precede our microneedling procedure. We will not begin the treatment unless this requirement is fulfilled. You can expect our sessions to be roughly 90 minutes long. Our esthetician will start by using a topical anesthetic on the area(s) to be treated to reduce the chance of pain. Again, this should be painless. Once the treatment has begun, the tool will make small pricks on the skin with the microneedling tool. The micro-needles on this pen-like tool will create holes so tiny they most likely won’t be seen. Microneedling will be done evenly across all areas of the targeted skin to heal and rejuvenate evenly.
Areas to Target
In most cases, estheticians do microneedling on the face. However, if needed, the esthetician can also do microneedling on areas of the body with stretch marks or scars. Using this treatment, you can target skin issues, which can include:
- Acne Scarring
- Fine Lines and Wrinkles
- Stretch Markes
- Age Spots/Sun Spots
- Uneven Skin Tone
- Large Pores
- Loose Skin
Since microneedling is a quick, painless procedure, there is minimal to no recovery time needed. It is usual for the treated area to be red within the first couple of days after microneedling. We do ask that sunscreen is worn as the treated skin will be more sun-sensitive after the treatment.
Results should be seen within a few weeks post-treatment and should be maintained with multiple microneedling sessions. If any questions may arise before your microneedling appointment, please give us here at Salon Madeleine a call at (321) 848-1847.
As with any skin treatment, some irritation may occur depending on skin sensitivity. We have consultations in place so that our esthetician can determine if this is the right procedure for you. In general, you may not be a great candidate for microneedling if you meet any of the conditions below:
- If you have open wounds
- If you are pregnant
- If you have recently had radiation therapy
- If you have skin diseases (i.e., psoriasis and eczema)
Home Versus Professional Microneedling
Individuals can purchase many microneedling devices for at-home use. These tools are less blunt and not meant to penetrate the skin as the professional microneedling tool will. You may be wondering what this means, especially if you already have your home tool. In short, we suggest that if you’re looking for optimum results, you book an appointment to have an esthetician complete the treatment. Home microneedling is a way to keep your results in between treatments and keep your skin glowing!
