Although dermaplaning has been around for a while, this treatment has been gaining popularity in most recent years, and it is no surprise why. Beyond making your skin feel incredibly soft, it can produce excellent results for acne scarring or uneven skin texture. Here at Salon Madeleine, we offer this fantastic treatment and a customized plant-based skin peel for added exfoliation and a nutrition boost for the skin.
What Is Dermaplaning?
Dermaplaning is a type of facial treatment that uses a tool reminiscent of a scalpel. This treatment removes the top layer of dead skin cells and peach fuzz from the face. The result of this treatment is a glowing complexion and a smoother and cleaner surface for skincare products to penetrate better into the skin and allow for a flawless application of makeup.
Dermaplaning can be beneficial for individuals that have the following skin types or issues:
- Acne Scarring
- Dry Skin
- Skin With Sun Damage
- Dull Skin
- Skin With Fine Lines and Wrinkles
You don’t even notice it, but we expose our skin to environmental toxins, irritants, and sun damage every day. This harsh exposure can cause the skin to appear older and dull.
What Are The Benefits?
With dermaplaning, this safe and effective treatment comes with many benefits to the skin’s appearance and overall health. Some of the benefits that dermaplaning provides are:
- It removes facial hair that can trap dirt and oil on the skin.
- It allows skincare products to penetrate the skin better.
- It reduces the appearance of acne scarring.
- It allows for smoother makeup application.
- It makes the skin smoother, brighter, and able to glow.
- It helps to hide wrinkles or fine lines on the skin.
- It minimizes large pores.
Before & After Treatment
Before you have a dermaplaning treatment done, you will need to consult with our esthetician to ensure that this treatment is the right option for your skin type. Please note that you may need to reschedule your appointment for this treatment if you are having a flare-up of acne. Please call us at (321) 848-1847 if you have any questions before your treatment.
After you have left your dermaplaning appointment, we recommend that you avoid the sun or are extra careful. Too much sun exposure may affect the results of this treatment. Please wear sunscreen outside of the house. We also recommend that you do not wear any makeup for at least 24 hours after your appointment.
Many people are concerned that having facial dermaplaning done may cause peachfuzz-like hair on their face to grow back darker. This is absolutely untrue. In general, the hair will not grow back thicker just because you shave it off. The tip where the hair was shaved may seem blunter and therefore appear denser, but it is not any larger than the hair before it. In fact, no noticeable difference will be made when the hair begins to grow back in.
Dermaplaning Vs. Microdermabrasion
While both of these treatments are skin exfoliating, there is a difference in how they remove the dead skin. For example, dermaplaning uses the edge of a small blade to remove the dead skin cells, while microdermabrasion uses a more abrasive tool that sands the skin cells away. We recommend that dermaplaning be done every four to six weeks, while microdermabrasion involves several rounds of treatments that last months at a time. Some of the ways that these two are similar are in their results, cost, and safety.
